LHS Presentation with Historian Showcases Newspapers by 1964 Freedom School Students

Join us for this special LHS presentation with Dr. William Sturkey, History Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, as he discusses his book, “To Write in the Light of Freedom: The Newspapers of the 1964 Mississippi Freedom Schools.” His book showcases newspapers published by Black children who learned civics, politics, and history, curriculum that helped them instead of the degrading lessons supporting segregation and Jim Crow.
