Scholar to Explore Slavery and the American Revolution

Dr. Maurice Jackson, a professor at Georgetown University, will speak on Monday, October 20, 2025 on “Slavery, Abolition, and the American Revolution: Debates Rooted in Economics, Faith, Human Rights, and Foreign Policies” at Haddonfield Friends Meeting, 47 Friends Avenue, Haddonfield. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Dr. Jackson, a professor at Georgetown University, is author of numerous books about African Americans, including Quakers and their Allies in the Abolitionist Cause, 1754-1808 and Halfway to Freedom: The struggles and strivings of black folk in Washington, D.C.

Professor & Author
His presentation will focus on discussions about slavery during the Revolutionary period, such as tensions between England and colonists arising from the Crown’s actions related to slavery, which led some to support the Revolution; abolitionists who campaigned to end slavery; and debates on slavery between the Founding Fathers.
