Join in Group Reading of “Letter from Birmingham Jail”

January 8 @ 7:00 PM 9:00 PM EST

Embracing Race – The Conversation and the Lawnside Historical Society will host an online reading of “Letter from Birmingham Jail” by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., during a joint meeting on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. We are excited to stimulate thought, inspire and educate participants as Dr. King’s 97th birthday nears. Historian Dolly Marshall will provide context for Dr. King’s incarceration and the letter.

We invite individuals and members of organizations to join in reading a segment of the 42-paragraph letter to fellow clergymen in which he explained why peaceful protest was not “extreme” in the face of repeated injustice, brutality and discrimination. There is no cost.

We are seeking other co-sponsors for the event. If interested, send email to lhs@petermotthouse.org or embracing.race.conversation@gmail.com. There is no cost.

Readers are asked to use the sign-up form at this link: https://tinyurl.com/ye2ahrsk
