An internationally known culinary historian and educator, Harris is the author of a dozen books on the foodways of the African diaspora. She holds a Ph.D. from NYU and is an English professor at Queens College, CUNY. Her 2011 book, High on the Hog: A Culinary Journey from Africa to America, forms the basis for the popular Netflix series of the same name.
