High on the Hog: Foodways throughout the African Diaspora | A Conversation with Dr. Jessica B. Harris

Africana Studies, the Lawnside Historical Society, Global Studies, Latin American Studies, Liberal Studies, Public Policy and Administration, and the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion invite you to a conversation with Dr. Jessica B. Harris. An internationally known culinary historian and educator, Harris is the author of a dozen books on the foodways of the African diaspora. She holds a Ph.D. from NYU and is an English professor at Queens College, CUNY. Her 2011 book, High on the Hog: A Culinary Journey from Africa to America, forms the basis for the popular Netflix series of the same name. Come and learn about the complex ways that food and its history shape Blackness around the globe.
